Hi Maomao,
Is your insomnia getting better now? I hope so.
Actually I have not tried St. John Wort yet. I planned to stop Citalopram immediately after 5 weeks. But my doctor strongly recommends to taper off gradually, taking 10 mg daily first week, and 5 mg daily for another week. It seems that St. John Wort is in conflict with Citalopram.
The Citalopram is really driving me nuts. It wakes me up every two or three hours and I could not fall sleep after waking up so I need take sleeping pills twice a night. I continue taking it by a hope that its side effect would be gone soon. But who knows when or whether it will go. So I decide stopping it. Based on other users, withdrawal effect is very painful. Even though I have just taken it for only 5 weeks, I have strongly feel the withdrawal effect now, keeping going to washroom, insomnia and anxiety getting worse. I hope that it will go soon.
I think that you are very smart by trying natural products first. I do not know why I could not fall sleep. I actually do not worry so much, basically no worry in my daily life. I will see two doctors tomorrow, one western and the other Chinese. The Chinese doctor told me that he had 99% confidence in curing my insomnia. If it really work, I could give you the herb prescription for your reference.
I am still struggling with the insomnia and hope that it will be getting better soon after stopping Citalopram. Fortunately my work is not hard and my boss told me that you could stay home if you do not feel well and health is always more important that work. Nice boss.
