i would'nt call having a carrier fleet a defence system.
it is almost as if you went out to get a bugatti and told your pals you just need a car to go pick up your groceries and kids.
but again, if one can afford it why not? it is going to cost a hefty amount to maintain that fleet , another level of spending compared to conventional defence budget.
the risk of having such big toy is the constant lure it present to the owner not to have a live test against it's capability . again something that took big excuse to.

No need to worry. Phl has 5000++ island carriers. What we need are aircraft to land. China needs a carrier for the south china sea since it is too far from the mainland. But we don't since we have lot of islands where we can base planes.

And it has sent warships to the Spratlys and claim the entire South China Sea. And will China act responsibly? No one can be really sure. Go read up history books on various dynasties - 夏,商,西周东周,春秋战国,秦,汉,三国,西晋东晋,十六国,南北朝,隋,唐,五代十国, 南北宋,辽,西夏,金,元明,清,中华民国,中华人民共和. Wars is also part of China history till today.
Tii today PRC still had territorial disputes with its neighbouring countries, India, Vietnam, Philippine, Nepal, Japan, Taiwan. I recall PRC signed some sort of pacts with Russia & N.Korea years ago to settle their territorial disputes by giving up some lands to them.
Is Tibet part of China before the Yuan dynasty? Who builded the Yuan dynasty? The Hans tribe or the Mongolian? After you took something from others by force & later you claimed it as yours, is that the right thing to do? This is conqueror is the keeper theory.
