This is a dangerous system. Possible risks include damaging winds, heavy rainfall, storm surge, rough seas, mudslides, and flash flooding. Information provided by JTWC Wind speeds and categorizations may differ from those reported by local meteorological agencies. Danas (Philippine name Bising, Japanese Typhoon Number 4) is located 424 km southwest of Taipei, Taiwan, and has tracked northeastward at 15 km/h (8 knots) over the past 6 hours. Maximum significant wave height is 8.5 meters (28 feet). Danas is forecast to track northeastward under the influence of a near-equatorial ridge to the southeast over the next 36 hours, however recent model guidance shows that the ridge is beginning to realign along a southwest-northeast axis and therefore leading to the track shifting slightly eastward. As a results, Danas is now expected to make landfall over southwestern Taiwan, near qigu district, within the next 6 to 12 hours. Prior to that, the system is expected to intensify further, potentially up to 165–175 km/h (90–95 knots), before the wind field is exposed to the mountain ranges of Taiwan. The western foothills, as well as the xueshan range are expected to have a significant impact on weakening of the system. After crossing the island, Danas is forecast to weaken to approximately 110 km/h (60 knots) and continue tracking northeastward until in around 36 hours. At that time, a subtropical ridge to the north will assume steering and push the system westward. Another landfall, over mainland China, is expected in 2 to 3 days. After that, Danas is expected to begin dissipating, which is forecast to be completed at or before 4 days. Intensity, particularly during the upcoming 24 to 36 hours, is assessed with low confidence, due to significant uncertainty associated with the track of the system, and therefore impacts of the terrain interaction on intensification or weakening.
