A laboratory in Kyoto University hasmaintainedfruit fly (Drosophila
melanogaster) under complete dark for 50 years (1300 generations). We
utilize this unusualmaterial to address mechanisms of adaptive
evolution. What traits does the fly acquire under vision-less
environment? We examine development, physiology and behavior to identify
the adapted traits and determine genome informationthat associate with
thetraits. This study would provide a new insight into molecular nature
of adaptive evolution.
