EAG Volunteering Diary Day 1 -- Lost Track of My VIP
I promised to keep a diary for my volunteering life, but I've never imagined that the first day of this diary is written on the MTR the other morning on my way to work. To conclude my first day of work with one word, that is ... mess. The mess began when I started off from the main desk in the airport.
There was an airport arrival and departure assistant going with me to the gate which my VIP would come through, Gate 46. She planned to take the auto shuttle within the airport to save us some walk, but this planned came out to cost us twice of walk and twice of time.... We were walking too fast, and missed the first check point for the auto shuttle. When we got the "station" of the auto shuttle, it is already close to our destination. We took the auto shuttle there, and it sent us back to where we started.... At last, this should be around 15 mins walk without shuttle came out to be a more than 30 mins "journey" with a shuttle "round trip". Apart from the travel mess we made, the arrival part was still acceptably smooth. My VIP had a guy and a young girl with him. Lucky that not both of them wanted to get on our car, as the BMW arranged for us would be really crowed if they really do.
Anyways, the schedule for my VIP on this very first night was really tight. He arrived around 4pm, and the road blocking started at 5pm in some of the areas. If we couldn't make it to the hotel by that time, the delay was possible to cost us multiple effort to get to the hotel. We were the ones with luck. Our car made it to the hotel by 4:55 and this earn my guest a shower before going to the opening ceremony. He changed into a bright red tie that attracted everyone's attention.
