It's not clear why Grace O'connor didn't exterminate them that day. Maybe in her mind, there was still some belief in the human race. After all, they were the lifeform she originated from.

And we originated from.

Unfurtunately, Alto and Sheryl had no children. Thus the human race, in its puriest form, was considered extinct after they pass away.

So boys and girls, you may wonder why we are confident to call ourselves "The proud descendants of Humans". And the answer, is about to reveal itself.
