형형색색의 풍선들. 

붉은 색의 장신구 물결 속에 외로이 진열되어 있는 풍선은 어떤 용도일까요? 



바로 작년까지 금지된 폭죽대신 설날에 사용되던 물건이랍니다. 

중국에서는 설날이 되면 폭죽을 터뜨림으로써 웅장한 소리와 밝은 빛으로 잡귀를 쫓아내고 액막이를 할 수 있다고 믿는 답니다. 그런데, 폭죽이 금지된 기간 동안에는 폭죽을 터뜨릴 수가 없어, 풍선을 터뜨림으로써 폭죽의 "펑"소리를 대신 했다고 합니다. 

물론 올해부터는 다시 사용할 수 있게 된 폭죽에게 자리를 내주고, 상점 한 구석의 조용한 자리에서 묵묵히 누군가의 손길을 기다리고 있습니다. 

설날이 되면, 중국에서는 상점은 물론 일반 가정집마다 대문에 "푸(福 - 복)"자를 거꾸로 붙여 놓는 답니다. 왜냐구요? 



바로 복이 쏟아져 들어오기를 바라는 마음에서 랍니다. 

여기에서 "따오(倒 - 거꾸로)"와 "따오(到 - 도달하다, 들어오다)"의 발음이 같아, 복을 거꾸로 붙여 놓은 형태로, 복을 불러 모은다는 의미를 상징적으로 보여주고 있지요. 그러고 보니, 중국 사람들의 상상력과 아이디어가 정말 대단한 것 같습니다. 


대문의 양쪽에 붙여 놓은 것은 "춘리앤(春联 - 신년에 대문이나 기둥 등에 써서 붙이는 댓구로 되어 있는 글자)"입니다. 

해마다 풍성하고, 평안하기를 바라는 내용이 적혀 있네요 
이렇게 설날을 맞이하여 중국의 곳곳이 붉은 색으로 물들어 가고 있습니다. 

해가 지고 어두운 저녁이 되면, 역시 붉은 "홍떵(红灯 - 홍등)"이 영롱하게 반짝이며 어둠을 밝히고 있습니다. 

2.중국에도 세뱃돈이란 게 있을까? 
1. 덕담을 적은 빨간 봉투에 건네는 세뱃돈 
중국에도 설날 아침이면 세뱃돈을 주는데, 이를 '압세전(压岁钱)'이라고 부른다. 경사(庆事)를 상징하는 붉은 색 봉투-홍포(红包 홍빠오)- 에 덕담을 쓰고 빳빳한 새 돈을 넣어 준다고 한다. 
중국의 설날 풍습 
1. 춘련 
우리나라의 '입춘대길'과 같은 맹락. 중국은 설날에 신춘과 관련된 글을 붙인다. 이 풍습은 '도부(복숭아나무에 귀신을 좇는 신의 이름이나 상을 그려 복을 기원하는 풍습)'에서 기원한 것이라는데... '춘조', '두방', '복자(복(福) 자를 서서 거꾸로 붙이는 것)' 등이 있다. 

2. 전지 
홍, 녹, 황 등의 색종이를 오려 여러 상서로운 모양을 만들어 창이나 문짝에 붙이는 풍습이다. 


3. 연화 붙이기 
영화 [집으로 가는 길]에서 여주인공이 문풍지에 예쁜 꽃잎을 붙이는 장면 기억하시죠? '사의'라고 부르는 이것은 원래 귀신을 쫓기 위해 그렸다는데 이것 역시 '도부'의 풍습에서 유래한다. 근간엔 닭, 돼지, 토끼 등이나, 기타 꽃, 새, 벌레, 화초 등의 도안을 오려서 창문에 붙이기도. 

4. 수세와 연야반 
수세란 음력 12월 31일 '제석'때 밤새도록 전 가족이 모여 먹고 노는 것을 말한다. 저녁 무렵이면 집집마다 등불을 밝히고 저녁을 먹는데 식사가 끝나면 바둑이나 마작 등을 즐기고, 12시 제야의 종이 울리면 일제히 폭죽을 터트린다. 

5. 폭죽놀이 
폭죽은 원래 대나무를 불에 태워 껍질을 터뜨리는 식이었지만, 화약이 발명된 이후 다양한 촉죽이 개발되었다. 이는 귀신을 쫓고 풍년을 기원하며, 명절의 분위기를 돋구는 의미를 지닌다. 

그들도 우리처럼 떡국을 먹을까? 중국의 설날 음식 
일반적으로 종자(주먹찬밥), 설떡, 국수, 탕원(알심이를 넣은 탕)을 먹고 주로 만두를 해먹는다. 이때 만두소에 돈이나 사탕 혹은 땅콩 등을 넣어 그것을 골라먹는 사람에게는 새해에 특별한 복이 올 것이라는 놀이를 하기도 한다.
