We’re The Millers continued to hold strong, after debuting with a solid $6.7 million on Wednesday.
The Jennifer Aniston/Jason Sudeikis comedy about a drug dealer hiring three neighbors to pretend to be his family earned another $8.5 million on Friday. This brings its three-day total to $19.9 million with an eye towards a $35-$40m five-day debut for the $37 million comedy.
The film received terrible reviews, but it had a simple premise and the prurient appeal (and free media coverage) of Jennifer Aniston playing a stripper.
Despite the hand-wringing that occurs every time Aniston opens a film, she can in fact be a box office draw in the right project. As always, it’s about star + concept, not just pure star power.
