MATCH-MADE!
Brawl Stars is played all around the world! We aim to provide the best matchmaking possible to ensure fair and fun brawling for everyone! There are many factors that determine and affect how matchmaking occurs.
OUR MATCHMAKING
Solo Matchmaking
Solo matchmaking is based on your selected Brawler's Trophy count, and to a lesser extent, your total Trophies. This helps to prevent newer players from matching with well-seasoned players.
Team Matchmaking
Team matchmaking is based on the player with the highest Brawler Trophy count in the team. This ensures that matches stay as balanced as possible and that the skill level matches the highest player in the team. This means that, in teams with significant differences in Brawler Trophy count, matchmaking will take longer, and matches might not be optimally balanced. Keep this in mind when selecting your Brawler.
Mega Pig Matchmaking
Matchmaking in some special modes, such as the monthly Mega Pig, is based on your top 10 Brawlers’ average Trophy count.
Ranked Matchmaking
In Ranked, you’ll be matched with players of a similar Rank Score, ensuring a fair matchmaking experience. Most of the time, players in Rank Bronze I to Gold III will not be able to play with players in Diamond I and above. However, if you’re below Diamond I, but qualify to play in Diamond ranks by having 12 or more Brawlers at Power Level 9+, you can still team up with players that are Diamond rank or higher.
Location/Region
In addition to the above, matchmaking prioritizes searches for players geographically in your region. Your battles will take place on the closest server based on your location, also known as a Battle Site. However, if no suitable matches can be found quickly or you are playing with friends outside of your global region, you may be switched to the next-best server location.
The number of players, distance between each other, and the overall distance to the Battle Site will all affect the overall performance and gaming experience. Please read the Server Information article for more info.
Duplicate Brawler Selection
By default, matchmaking does not allow the same Brawler to be used by multiple players on the same team. This is to preserve balanced team compositions and matches. However, this rule is discarded by matchmaking after a certain amount of time to ensure matches don’t take too long to find. This is most evident when a new Brawler is released and can easily be obtained by the majority of players.
Less-Experienced Teammates / Teaming Up
Lost a game because of less-experienced teammates? You are usually matched with players of similar Brawler Trophy count, although much like any sport, some players may be more talented than others. Similar Brawler Trophy count will not always ensure equal skill.
If this is an issue, try pairing up with friends or joining a Club with players that you know are as experienced/skilled as you before matchmaking.
You can look for a teammate before diving into matchmaking by tapping the ‘Team Up’ button and searching for a player to join you.
Also, if you notice someone is playing particularly well in a match, why not send them a friend request from the end game screen?
My Teammate is AFK!
Teammates that are idle for some time in the match will be kicked and replaced with a bot. We understand that bots may not be as effective as real players in battle, but it is much better than having a teammate that isn't playing at all!
SLOW MATCHMAKING
Sometimes matchmaking may be slow. This can be caused by the following:
Trophies
Since matchmaking is based on Trophies, it might take some time for the system to locate players close to your range.
Server/Timezone
Your connection to your Battle Site and the number of players in it can affect waiting times.
Brawler Selection
Matchmaking will try not to match you with players using the same Brawler. This can lead to a longer waiting time.
Please note! When new Brawlers are out, it can result in slow matchmaking, as everyone will be eager to use them.
