本船原型来源于“远行星号”恶魔航电mod的同名战舰-“漩流”级战列巡洋舰，是经过了缩小和改装的版本。
A slender and nimble battle-cruiser that is builtaround a Micro-Missile Array and a Displacement ship system. TheMaelstrom-class battlecruisers are deployed as the main strategic bombardmentplatform of the Diable Avionics fleets thanks to their ability to mount andrelentlessly fire the infamous Uhlan Siege Laser battery.
While barely capable of standing toe-to-toe withproper battleships, the flexible Maelstrom can fulfill many different rolesfrom auxiliary carrier to long-range fire support ship. If caught in a pinch,it is a capable assault ship that can deftly reposition itself using itsClass-X Phase Grazer Core.
The Maelstrom design started as an attempt tocreate a battleship with "Phase Skimming" capabilities. The hull wasto be lightweight and equipped with two Heavy Flicker Cores with additionalcapacitors. After a few months of attempts, a couple wrecks and a destroyedtest observation bay along with all its occupants, the project was scaled back.
Instead of a proper dip into phase space that wouldallow the ship to seemingly instantly relocate, the Flicker Cores were tuned toonly harness some of the energy and effects of phase space to move the hull inreal space. An already significant feat by itself that would send the hopes fora teleporting capital ship into the "against the laws of physics" bin.
