CHILE ARE BOYS 2010 WORLD CHAMPIONS Chile claimed it’s first World Junior Finals title today, defeating Italy 2-1 on centre court at TK Plus. Chile now becomes the second South American nation to claim a World Junior Title since Argentina in 1996, having narrowly missed out in the final to France in 1999. Christian Garin (CHI) raced to a one set lead in the opening singles against Filippo Baldi with the loss of just two games. Baldi then discovered his form in the second set, putting up more resistance, but eventually succumbing 26 67. In the boys second singles tie, Bastian Malla (CHI) met Gianluigi Quinzi (ITA). The two opposing No.1s have both had an excellent tournament, both remaining unbeaten before this match, with the pressure on Quinzi to keep Italy in contention for the gold medal. Quinzi stepped up to the challenge defeating Bastian Malla 64 75. All depended on the teams’ final performance in the doubles. Chile stormed through the first set 61, in under 20 minutes, and then took the second 63 to claim Chile’s first World Junior Finals title.
