不知道听错了多少。。。 I'm straight, and I give a damn about equality. I can get married to a woman on a wing, and no one is going to question the validity of that relationship. But my gay friends who are in long-term, loving, committed relationships are treated so differently. In the eyes of the law, my gay friends' relationships are not equal to mine. No arrangement offers as much protection as marriage can. Imagine not being able to marry the person you love most in the world, the person you wanna spend the rest of your life with. Imagine not being able to visit your wife or husband in a hospital, or get time off work to take care of them if they're sick. Imagine not being able to include them on your health insurance or pass on your social security benefits you spend a lifetime building. Proposed alternatives in marriages like civil unions and domestic partnerships have proven themselves to be lesser than versions of the real thing and treat gay couples like second-class citizens. It is time for things to change. It is time that loving and committed gay couples receive the same level of security, dignity and respect I would if I got married today. This is just one of the many reasons I care about equality. We all have to get involved. We all have to give a damn. I give a damn, do you?
