dear aloysius
it's so nice to have a penpal on the other side of the world. i hope we can be friends across the continents and oceans for thr rest of our lives.
i'd like to tell you a bit about where i live. my house is a maisonerre, which means it is a single buliding containing two homes, one on the left and one on the right with a common wall between. sometimes this is called a "semi_detached" house. the house is raised about 4 metres up off the ground on stilts,to help keep it cool and to avoid flood damage we kids can play in the underneath section and our parents park the car there . the land is large about 40 metres long from front to back and 15 metres wide .we can play cricet in the back yard.
the suburb where i live mundingburra is about 6km from the city centre of townsville,a port and manufacturing city of about 70,000 people most of the arer around here is quite flat. it's easy for me to cycle the 3km to school.
at the bottom of my street mabin st is the ross river. usually it is a thoilc small stream winding across the wide floodplain about 5 metres below the banks, but in the rainy season it can fill up and sometimes flood over all the surrounding streets, including ours.
one the other side of the rive is the meatworks, which emits a powerful stench 24hours a day . fortunately the wind doesn't often bloe towardsour house but when it does it is quitr disgusting.
at the other end of mabin st is the local catholic a large brick a large brick edifice bulit a few yeaes ago.the catholic school st anthony's is adjacent and tha state school is on the other side.
a very large and beautiful park sits behind the church, extending 1km across and 300m wide it is full of huge shady trees and lush grass of a deep green hue.when we get heavy rains, the whole park becomes a lake as ie sits in a depression.
three doors towards the church in our block is an old tin house with a huge mango tree out the front. every summer hundreds pf mangos fallthe tree and lie rotting on the footpath for weeks or months. i don't know what's worse, the decaying mangoes or the foul wind wafting from the meatworks...
there is a small convenience store another block further down owned by the leong family.their son goes to my school.
that's about all i've got time to write for now .hope to hear from you soon about where you live.
