Lecture One
1 How does the idea that life arose spontaneously on the Earth affect your view of huamnity and what it means to be human?
2 given our current understanding of the origin of life on earth, do you think life exists elsewhere in the universe?

1 humans are not fundamentally different from other species, therefore we are not qualified to be anthropocentric. and life is rare and spring up from contingencies, therefore we'd better treasure our lives. And, what means to be human, for me, is to explore what I live, and how to lead a more efficient life. Sounds a little cynical or satirical perhaps-to live to know why I live. but I think that is the ultimate and most advanced goal of people. To be human is also to be probably the only kind of species that is aware of our own existence. So we should lead a puritannical and austere life, better reclusive too.
2 Sure. I reall do think so. Given proper conditions and required raw materials, life can happen everwhere. Since the universe has numerous planets, even there's almost a probability of 0% for evolving life, there must have been some planets which can evolve life. and who knows, perhaps there's also another universe?
