“BOYFRIEND” is a physical-only bonus track that replaces the originally released fourth track, “EXACTLY WHAT YOU RUN FROM IS WHAT YOU END UP CHASING”, on the cassette, CD, and vinyl releases. The entirety of Jerrod Carmichael’s spoken word interlude from “EXACTLY WHAT YOU RUN FROM IS WHAT YOU END UP CHASING” is still present at the end of the track, making “BOYFRIEND” like a prequel.
The track continues on the theme of Tyler’s relationship seen all over IGOR, with Tyler crooning in his high-pitched, altered voice about wanting to be this person’s significant other. The track also features a completely new instrumental backing during the chorus and Tyler’s verses. However, the ending of the song still features Jerrod Carmichael’s spoken-word outro and keeps the original fourth track’s skeletal piano chords as the instrumental during the intro and spoken-word outro of the track to preserve the transition between tracks that is seen on the original version of the record.
The introduction of the track features Charlie Wilson, who Tyler has worked with in the past and on two other tracks from this record.
