There is one thing I don't understand, why do we all want to learn English so badly?
It has no use in China, unless you go abroad.

agree with 19 (assume you are abroad judging by the time of your post).  the nationwide craze over English is dumbfounding--most people just had the herd mentality and wanted to follow the crowd even though they had never given much thought to why they would want to devote a chunk of their life to a foreign language.  English has some use in China, but only for certain people.  i see no point in everyone--regardless of background and field of expertise--learning English at the same time.  Particularly for young children, whose time is best spent playing and just being a happy kid, English is purely a waste of their time.  The Chinese way of teaching English is very much problematic too; that's why you see all these students from mainland China who score really high on all standardized tests but can't utter a complete sentence.  English is nothing but a tool of communications.  If you actually have the need to use it, believe me, you will learn it.  That was how Junan was able to learn it in such a short period of time.  If you are in China or otherwise Chinese suffices for purposes of your daily communication needs, you will have a hard time learning it.  There's no myth to a foreign language--anyone can learn it when they need to.
