最近有同学问我，Essay和Report的区别在哪里？相对于report的写作格式，essay的structure是更为人所熟悉的，其实二者相差不大，主要通过一些小的方面将二者加以区分。
Essay的结构主要由这三个部分组成：introduction，main body 和conclusion。
Introduction通常包括： topic，relevant background/context of the issue in question, brief description of the following sections, thesis statement。
Main body的内容：topic sentence, arguments, evidence, analysis based on critical thinking。
Conclusion的作用：to summarize what has been discussed in the part of main body and make a reflection about the issue concerned.
u Report 也有以上三个部分（introduction，main body 和conclusion），但是report一般都要求有executive summary 和 recommendations。 除非老师另外有规定，写这几个部分就可以成为一篇结构完整的report。
Executive summary: 执行摘要为读者提供报告的主要目的，即分析流程，调查结果和建议。它之所以被称为摘要是因为读者可能没有足够的时间阅读完整的报告，但需要提取足够的信息以做出明智的决定。执行摘要应该鼓励读者继续阅读完整的报告。它也可以作为一个在未来的某个阶段快速参考报告的简要介绍。以下是对它的英文介绍。
Executive summary的字数和整个正文的字数有一定的比例关系，下面是一个国外老师要给出的版本，仅供参考。
Recommendations: 简单点说，对文章所讨论的问题提出有针对性的建议。recommendations可以一条条标号列出，但必须全是full sentences，不可以用bullet points的形式。下面是对recommendations的英文介绍以辅助理解。
