The South Korean actor was in Singapore for a private fan meeting
It’s not every day we get to go off on a tangent during an interview with a Korean celebrity. This is why we were pleasantly surprised to discover that no one was staring daggers at us during our chat with Gang Dong Won on Monday (Apr 2) when we dared to tiptoe into topics that were – gasp! – not submitted beforehand.
As it turns out, the organiser’s request for us to send in our queries was not so the South Korean mega-star’s managers could scrutinise and strike out any unseemly (in their eyes, at least) points, but so Dong Won himself, who was in town for a private fan meeting, could be better prepared to give his answers entirely in English.
The 37-year-old’s advance preparations paid off, but he was also able to tackle our more spontaneous lines of questioning (with only a few minor and understandable stumbles in his vocabulary every now and then), lending weight to the interpreter’s half-joking claim that he doesn’t really need her around at all.
