During confrontation between armies on the map of World War mode, battles are created where each side has only the vehicles that were present in the army that joined the battle - this is called the army vehicles pool. When the player enters a battle in the World War mode, he or she receives from 1 to 3 vehicles from the army vehicles pool. The chance of getting one vehicle or another depends on the number of vehicles of the same type in the army vehicles pool. When losing one vehicle in the battle, you will receive another vehicle from the army vehicles pool by the same rules, but only in the case that this vehicle is still present in the army.
You can even receive a vehicle which you haven't assigned to any of your crew slots before the mission start, but it will be without installed modifications and with base crew (stock vehicle and crew). This way, you cannot influence the vehicles you will receive and you cannot know what vehicles you will receive. But if you put all the available vehicles for the mission in crew slots, you will be guaranteed to use your own vehicles with all modifications that are researched and the crew that is mastered.
Why was this type of spawns chosen for the World War mode?
Armies in each operation of the World War mode have the vehicles that were historically present in the armies that were taking part in this recreated battle operation. This means that in the battles of World War mode there are vehicles with a very different battle rating present. Up until now, we had no mode in the game, where we had to deal with such a balancing issue, so we could not use any of the available spawn methods already present in the game.
Closest to the World War mode were the events of the World War Two chronicles, where we pick the "most popular (most effective)" vehicles for players and give it price in spawn points, while all other vehicles have no spawn points price and the number of respawns is limited.
First thing that we had problem with while using this method in the World War mode was that there was no diversity of vehicles in battle. Lets take a look at the Soviet tank army in the operation "Battle of Vitebsk". This army has 4 KV-1s, 8 T-34s, 44 BT-7s, 8 BT-5s, 36 T-26s. If we do not allow players to use the "effective" KV-1s and T-34s, we will see the absolute majority of BT-7s, even if there is no big difference between them and BT-5s and T-26s. Also, we haven't planned to have a limited amount of respawns for one player and limited amount of respawns in a certain vehicle. This would lead to players not taking BT-5s and T-26s into battles, although they can make the difference.
That is why we decided to force the vehicle distribution from the army among all the players in battle. But, this method has one big drawback. If the army of 100 tanks has a small amount of certain tank type (like 4 KV-1s and 8 T-34s, i.e.), there is a chance that nobody will receive any of these tanks. In order to avoid this, we first cut the number of vehicles to a certain degree (i.e. by 4 times) and receive a compact army of 1 KV-1, 2 T-34s, 11 BT-7s, 2 BT-5s, 9 T-26s. If this army is then distributed among players, it is possible to guarantee that someone will definitely get the KV-1 or T-34. At the same time, it is possible to guarantee that the players cannot immediately use all their 4 KV-1s and 8 T-34s - usage of vehicles from the army vehicles pool will go gradually.
Another complex problem is when the army has vehicles that are created for specific battle tasks. As an example, the tank army has 100 tanks and 80 SPAAs for defense against aircraft attacks. But when another tank army attacks this army, the SPAAs will not be able help and players will have nothing to do in them. This is why in this case we force giving players at least one tank. And in the case that this kind of tank army gets attacked by airstrike - each player will receive at least one SPAA.
In the end we get the even usage of different vehicles, more diversity of vehicles in battle and most important - each player in battle is guaranteed to have at least one vehicle that is needed to reach the mission goals.
I have put my fully upgraded aircraft in my crew slot, but I cannot use all of the secondary weapons (ordinance)?
Only the specific secondary weapons (ordinance) in the aircraft army are available, that have to be chosen by the commander while the aircraft army is on the airfield. If there are no secondary weapons specified by commander, you can use only the default secondary weapons for the aircraft in the army. Also, if the army has already been in a battle and used up all the secondary weapons - it will need reload on the airfield.
Why in different battles, I have different amount of vehicles available to me?
Number of vehicles that are given to each player depends on 2 factors - the amount of vehicles available in the army vehicles pool and the different types of vehicles in the pool. Also, the vehicles that are given to players of the same squadron is merged in the squadron vehicles pool. This way, if there are 5 players from the same squadron playing in a battle and each of them got 3 vehicles, the squadron vehicles pool will have 15 vehicles that players can use the way they see fit.
