Two YHS Students Recognized as National Merit Semifinalists
George Guo also Achieves Finalist Status
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation named George Guo as a Finalist in the nationwide Merit Scholarship competition. Earlier in the school year, George and his classmate Tolly Moore were included in the very select group of students recognized as semifinalists for their exceptional academic ability. Both George and Tolly have done outstanding work outside the classroom, as well.
George Guo serves as President of the high school's Key Club, and as editor-in-chief of the school's awarding-winning newspaper, The Voice. He is considering a career in finance.
Like his father, who works on Wall Street, George is interested in the application of rigorous analysis and mathematical models to help understand and predict the performance of financial markets. He has taken many of the most challenging courses available at the high school, including A.P. (Advanced Placement) courses in Statistics and in Calculus (the latter as a sophomore). Also as a sophomore, he took A.P. Macroeconomics, and he is currently studying both A.P. Microeconomics and Small Business Ownership with Mr. Adam Accetta.Next year, he will be pursuing many of these same interests at Harvard University.
