In a typical procedure of synthesis silica cages (MSC-12), 2.38 g CTAB was dissolved in 50 ml deionized water at 50 oC under vigorous stirring to form a clear solution. 0.75 g SS and 2.2 ml EA were added in the clear solution at 23 oC under vigorous stirring conditions in 5 min, and the synthesis system was kept at 23 oC static reaction for 16 h. Then the mixture solution was evaporated to dryness at 60 oC for 12 h to give a white solid. The white solid was allowed to age in ethanol (~ 100 ml) at room temperature (28 oC) for 24 h, after removal ethanol, and this procedure was repeated again. (Most of templates would be removed in this process.) The products were desiccated at room temperature, and the dried white powders were calcined at 650 oC for 6 h. (J. Mater. Chem., 2008, 18, 5967)
