Food news: a culinary journey

When the swimming career of Olympic champion, Ian Thorpe, came to an end, he realised his eating habits would have to change along with his new lifestyle. Accustomed to having a super-fit, lean physique from hours spent in the pool, Mr Thorpe was well-aware of the pitfalls from ceasing intense physical training. Giving up the big flavours of his favourite meals wasn’t an option, so instead, he worked on a plan that allowed him to keep them in his diet. His new cook-book, Eat Well Now, is predominantly paleo based, and includes dishes inspired by a diet gathered from some of Australia’s most regarded nutritional experts who advised him during his years as an elite sportsman. Dishes include mandarin cake, Japanese pork with onion dressing and fool-proof chicken. Available from hardiegrantbooks.com.au and all good book stores, $29.99.
