Captain Flint and the other pirates of Nassau will have to prepare for the onslaught by England in “Black Sails” Season 3. Cast member Toby Stephens talked about how his character will deal with the past events and take on this new challenge.
In an interview with Collider, Stephens (Captain Flint) said that his character will find it difficult to cope with the pain of losing people close to him in the beginning of Season 3. The character will try to block all the pain and focus on the task at hand.
Flint wants to “create enough chaos” in the world to “bring England to him.” The character now has a fierce reputation for being a ruthless pirate and he, along with his crew, will continue to build that reputation by plundering and killing people. Stephens revealed that his character will try and vent his anger at England, who he blames for all the sad things in his life.
The actor revealed that “Black Sails” Season 3 will feature dream sequences that will give the audience a glimpse of what is going on inside Flint’s head. “We’re allowed into him to see that there’s this seething turmoil that’s going on underneath. You will see a bit more, later into the season,” Stephens said.
The previous season showed the back story of Flint through flashback scenes. The scenes revealed how certain characters like Miranda (Louise Barnes) were connected to Flint. Now, John Silver (Luke Arnold) will have to be the one to get close to the pirate captain and try to “influence” him to save the crew, Stephens teased.
Silver and Flint have become “co-dependent” and need each other to take on the new challenges they are going to face in “Black Sails” Season 3. “I won’t give much away, but their journey is really cool,” Stephens said. “It’s a tragic relationship. It could never sustain itself. But for awhile, it’s sweet.”
