According to latest rumours, we might have seen the last of AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini in action on the day he suffered the serious injury that kept him out of competition during the final part of last season. In fact, the AC Milan's captain, whose current contract expires on June 30,  is far from reaching a financial agreement for the renewal of his contract with the club's officials. Therefore, Maldini's retirement seems to be certain. Ending a glorious football career over a contract dispute at the age of 39 would not be the ideal way to say farewell (despite the wishes of all parties concerned), but that is how football goes sometimes.
