ThePowerOfOne: Most of the questions I would like to ask usually require that you reveal some confidential info, so I will try and avoid such questions :-). I just wanna express my astonishment on the new Laguna Coupé. It is gorgeous. Extremely elegant and fluent in design, should have unmatched handling characteristics due to the 4 wheel steering system and its top of the line engines have more than enough power. It's just so beautiful!!! Now, how about some advertisement of Renault by posting this message, lol!

RF1 Paddock Pass: Thanks! Yes the Laguna Coupe is just great! I really like the back I have to admit...Lucas and Romain enjoyed it a lot... they actually hope to get one!

Muriel: How is the morale of our drivers after a difficult Grand Prix?

RF1 Paddock Pass: They are Ok, I must say… For Fernando, he knows that he attacked perhaps a bit too much, although he did say before the race that he would take his chances as we are not fighting for the championship. For Nelson, it’s a bit different, we are all behind him and we don’t want to put too much pressure on him… it’s not easy position for him, but you have to acknowledge it. We all hope he will bounce back quickly and we will do everything to help him.

Seb28: Are you confident for Canada after the Monaco Grand Prix?

RF1 Paddock Pass: Confident…we are never totally confident. F1 is a demanding category and you can never take anything for granted. On the other hand, there is no reason why we should not be able to deliver a similar performance to what we have done in the last few races.

Cirebox: Now, can you tell us RF1PP what you think might have been possible in the race?

RF1 Paddock Pass: A podium for Fernando – that could have been quite nice – hard but nice - and when you see where Webber finished that seems quite a realistic goal. But Monaco is Monaco – truly a lottery.

Alonso56: But what about Nelson – we didn’t see what happened to him.

RF1 Paddock Pass: He slid off with his dry tyres on a track that was still damp.

Alonso56: thanks. 

cirebox: Did the gearboxes suffer in Monaco?

RF1 Paddock Pass: No specific problems…

Alonso56: Do you think there will be better results at the Canadian GP?

RF1 Paddock Pass: That’s what we’re aiming for, and until then we are working on perfecting our car.

Galex: In terms of logistics – how does it work now? Do the lorries go back to Viry and Enstone, or do they stay in Viry to leave at the same time for Canada?

RF1 Paddock Pass: The cars must come back to Enstone. They will then be entirely rebuilt, checked and ready to leave for Montreal on Friday.

Greenpe : How is the team working with the ECU? Is it still a challenge for the team or is it now fully integrated in the car?

RF1 Paddock Pass : I am sorry Greenpe but I don't speak Spanish although I do understand...
For the ECU everything seems to be fine now...
It was a big challenge for all of us this winter and it took some time to make the most of it, but it seems ok for us now.


Cirebox: The traction that you were missing in Monaco – will that be a problem in Montreal or will it be solved by then.

RF1 Paddock Pass: The traction will not be as important in Montreal as it was in Monaco…and we are working to improve lots of different areas, of which this is one.

Room: When will we have the next evolution that will allow us to take another step forward?

RF1 Paddock Pass: We are continuing to make to make small changes – there is not a race where nothing changes on the car.

Waga: Can we hope to be comfortable in Montreal – a circuit known for low grip?

RF1 Paddock Pass: I would not use the word ‘comfortable’, but we should not be too bad…there are no indications that lead us to believe that it will be a circuit that will not suit us. Nelson does not know the circuit, but Fernando does – and he will make the most of it.

Alice : Good evening RF1, I was concerned about the moral of Nelson after the weekend’s race. Has he recovered? And may I ask what preparation does RF1 give to rookie drivers to prepare them for the challenges of a Grand Prix weekend. Do the drivers have access to a race simulator, coach etc… Thanks

RF1 Paddock Pass: We actually don't have a race simulator but Nelson and Fernando do work with their physiotherapist to get ready for each race, to look after their diet and their mental preparation

Galex: Monaco requires the highest steering angle of the season. Why isn’t it always at its highest setting?

RF1 Paddock Pass: It is more important in Monaco for the simple reason that the circuit has some of the tightest corners of the championship. There is absolutely no point in using a high steering angle on a circuit with more open corners.

PorstForever: Hello Rf1PP. Why didn’t Piquet pit when his tyres were ruined.

RF1 Paddock Pass: It did not fit with his strategy and would not have a given us a positive result in the end (if he had finished the Grand Prix). And the track conditions did not allow a switch to dry tyres that early.

Room: Hello, can we expect a R28B later in the season?

RF1 Paddock Pass: To produce a R28B would effectively mean a new car, which would then have to pass new crash tests with the FIA – that would cost a lot of time and money. At the moment, this is not planned. We prefer to improve the current R28.

Alonso56: Is Red Bull Racing happy with the results they have got with the engine and are they going to continue using it?

RF1 Paddock Pass: Yes, they are apparently very happy…both by the support service and by its performance.

Cirebox: As RF1 has openly said that the team is no longer fighting for the championship, what is the actual goal for the team? To finish 2008 strongly and continue developing the car and still concentrate on 2009?

RF1 Paddock Pass: Honestly Cirebox…it is impossible to say what we were ever fighting for the championship?! Would you believe it if I said we were…you probably would not give it as much credit as you give certain rumours about transfers and other gossip.

RF1 Paddock Pass: So, we cannot fight for the championship this season, but we want to do well: we’re looking for performance race after race. As we are not fighting for the championship, we can take more risks to gain performance. That is how you should look at it. We will try our best to maybe score a podium or even a victory! It will be our target for sure!
