Upcoming online debate
We kick off our next debate on May 27th with a proposition that is guaranteed to generate a lively discussion:
China and the Olympics
"This house believes it was a mistake to award the Olympic Games to Beijing."
Daniel Franklin, Economist.com's Executive Editor, will be moderating and has presented the following questions to stimulate the discussion:
What will be the lasting impression from this summer's Beijing Olympic games: glorious athletics or divisive politics? What of the impact on the Chinese people themselves? Will their pride as hosts to a global spectacle bring lasting benefits, or possible frustration beyond the closing ceremony? Did awarding the games to Beijing, with all the attendant political controversy, help or harm the relevance and prestige of the Olympics?
Join the debate on May 27th.
Debate schedule:
May 27th - Opening statements and voting begins
May 30th - Rebuttals. Have your say on the issues so far, and vote
June 4th - Speakers' closing arguments. Post your final comments and vote for your winner
June 6th - Debate winner announced
