在江浙一带，基本被叫做“狗头虎，狗头熊，马头熊”等，除了神乎其神的传说（日寇遗留军犬和狼杂交&拍人肩膀咬断喉管之类），可以判断此物原型是一种类似狼和狗，但却比二者都粗壮多的罕见动物，而且每到日落就发出瘆人叫声。（熊没有此习性，狼和狗的嚎和吠叫则非常好区分）。第二是食量和咬合力惊人，经常把小孩吃的一点不剩，狼的咬合力我是见识过的，动作虽然相当敏捷，但是咬合力和食量比鬣狗科差很多。
