It was night when I walked out of the building. The temperature was colder because of the rain. I buttoned my coat and headed to the coffee shop. The city was never asleep, the streetlights and big commercial screen made the night brighter than daytime. There were couples walking together, holding hands and murmuring around each
other’s ears. There were children too, playing and running around. The city was
so boisterous that the moon likes rather lonely. I squeezed through the crowed
and heard a voice coming from behind. “Would you like a rose, Lady?” it was the
girl selling flowers in the morning. Her face was red and she was breathing
quickly. I reached for my pocket but the girl stopped me. “This is the last
one.” The girl handed the rose to me. “Thank you.” I smiled. The girl smiled
back and walked away. There was a thunder announcing it’s going to rain. I
walked faster with the rose. It started to rain just as I reached the shop. The
rose only had one pedal left and I left a trial of pedals on the ground but
they were soon devoured by the rain. I went in to the shop.

There were more people in the shop than usual because the occasion. Most of the people are lovers sitting together talking and drinking. I walked to the guy handing out all the beverages. “Hey, David.” I said. “Oh hey, the usual?” David asked. I nodded. This was our casual conversation. “How are things going?” David asked. “The usual.” I answered. “Do you want to add some sugar? I mean it’s Valentine’s day right?” David smiled at me. I didn’t say anything. “What’s with the flower?” David pointed at the one-pedal rose. “Oh, I find it outside.” I said, ignored David doubtful expression. There was an awkward silence until he handed me the coffee. I took a sip and taste the heavy sugar-flavored coffee. I sat by the window and watched the rain. By the time I finished the coffee, I realized I was still holding the rose. I left the rose on the table and pushed the door open.I took a deep breath of the fresh and started walking. Someone patted me on the shoulder and handed me the broken rose and asked, “Will you be my Valentine?”
