Ruud van Nistelrooy is still working on his recovery in Moscow, but is clearly looking forward to getting back on the pitch. Last season's top scorer offered his thoughts on the impending campaign...
His "complicated injury" is coming to an end, with the Super Cup firmly in his sights. However, he admits that he's not 100% certain to play in the first leg.
However, he knows what he expects of his teammates.
Despite sexy football being the mantra at the Bernabeu, van Nistelrooy admits that such aesthetic concerns take second place to the final score.
He said, "The coach has great ideas for the team, and that's a good thing for the players. Who doesn't like to play good football?
"The players more than anybody like to play good football, but we also have to win matches. Winning is what always matters the most."
The Dutchman went on to praise the level of competition at the Merengues, saying that, due to the demands of top-level football at both domestic and international level, Madrid and other top sides need plenty of backup.
