卡伦·卡朋特(Karen Carpenter)及其兄 理查德·卡朋特(Richard Capenters)出生于 美国康涅狄格州，理查德是位很有才华的 艺人，演唱、弹琴、制作及歌曲创作均可 胜任，与其妹组建乐队后，甘为配角为妹 妹写歌，伴奏。他们自幼就拥有良好的音 乐环境。1969年，他们带着自录的音乐走 遍洛杉矶，终于在A&M唱片公司，他们迎 来了成功的曙光。 1969年11月15日，首张 专辑《CLOSE TO YOU》发行,专辑中的同 名歌曲瞬即荣登排行榜首。从此，卡朋特 兄妹演唱组的事业蒸蒸日上,不断有佳作问 世。但好景不长，卡伦因慢性厌食和神经 过敏于1983年2月4日死在深爱她的父母怀 中。她死时只有三十二岁。木匠乐队也到 此终结。但卡伦·卡朋特那清新、健康的旋 律，略带忧郁的中音，亲切自然的演唱却 永远让我们难以忘怀。
