I think the last scene really made my heart ache. For a couple of reasons actually...
Sad and Lonely Future ES
When you think about how she must have lived without CY and regret about the things she could have done differently. She was never able to move on and had to live the remainder of her life trying to prevent all the bad things from happening again. Also, I think even if future ES wanted to do it over again, she couldn't. I think there was a reason why she had to go even further in the past. She probably couldn't go back to the time when CY was alive because the current ES would be there living out that part of the time cycle - and there can't be two ES at the same time. So her only choice was to go farther back and hope that ES living out the time when CY was alive will make the right decisions to change the future.
Present ES
I think by reading that new note found in the rocks, present ES now knows that if she doesn't do things right and end up with CY, a sad and lonely future is awaiting her. She'll have to do everything that future ES has already done, to ensure the next "present ES" with CY has the information she needs to make the right decisions.
