who had brought her up
and a little later
her only brother
and then her firstborn

语感很朴实。
背景就是诗人年老时对亡母的追忆。
Night with No Moon
Now you are darker than I can believe
it is not wisdom that I have come to
with its denials and pure promises
but this absence that I cannot set down
still hearing when there is nothing to hear
reaching into the blindness that was there
thinking to walk in the dark together
第一步就难住我了。Night with No Moon，简单可译为无月之夜，而标题用了with no而不是without。without在英文中与within相对，有outside之意；with no的no，可以译作没有，而如果作为词汇本身来看，可以表示否定、虚无。观看全诗，发现去“否定”义好，这样这个“否定之月”就是一个纯粹隐喻。不知道怎样才能自圆其说。
