This morning, Ana withdrew from the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati with a tear in her right foot that she suffered in Montreal.
Ana had an MRI done for her foot, which showed that she needed five days of rest and that she can resume her first practices on Saturday the 18th. Fortunately, she has plenty of time to recover effectively because the US Open does not start for another two weeks.
There is a rumor that New Haven might offer Ivanovic a wildcard. If she plays this tournament next week, though, she would have less time to make a full recovery, so I think that she probably will not enter.
Here is what Ana said after withdrawing from Cincinnati: "I'm very sorry to that I'm withdrawing from this event," said Ana. "It kind of turned around my season two years ago and I was hoping to draw on those positive experiences this week.
"I've had soreness in my right foot for the past week, so I decided to have it checked: I did an MRI scan at the weekend and it showed a tear. The doctors have advised me to rest my foot totally for at least five days, so this means I can't play.
"I'm sorry to my supporters who were hoping to see me this week. I am looking forward to returning to Cincy next year and many more years after that."
