There’s a lot in Russia-many places to see and places to go and it’s thought-provoking.

The man who loves Russia’s spirit becomes the Ambassador for Tolstoy.
Park Shin-yang was appointed as Ambassador of Tolstoy on December 10th, 2004 for the ‘Tolstoy exhibition’ at the Seoul Museum of History. On that they, he received the nomination from Vitali Remizov (head curator of Moscow National Tolstoy Museum and also participated in the “Creating the World’s Biggest Book” event.
Park, who studied in Russia, commented regarding ‘Tolstoy’, “I think he was an author who tried to depict the agonizing urgency of life’s hardships. In the future, I hope Tolstoy’s work will be resurrected in Korea through this exhibit.”

Handwritten original manuscripts by Tolstoy were on display, including War and Peace, Anna Karenina and The Resurrection. The life of the 19th century Russian is contextualized by some 600 artifacts he possessed. Items on display, some of which are Russia’s national treasures, include Illya Repin’s dialogue and a phonograph given to Tolstoy by Thomas Edison.

About Tolstoy
He was born on August 28th in 1928, some 200km outside of the Russia’s capital Moscow, in a small town in the Tula province. Along with Dostoevsky, Tolstoy was one of the world’s great 19th century writers and a sharp critic of civilization as well as a genius and a sage. His most notable works include The Resurrection, War and Peace, Anna Karenina, A Confession, and Walk in the Light.
