This literally broke my heart. She almost looked…happy.. here. Like she knew she was going to see him. Even though she chose Stefan — she had hope. She felt it deep down that he would be okay. And then he’d come back to her. Her Damon would come back. By choosing Stefan she was able to keep both of them. She knew Damon would never leave her. After all, he promised. She’s breathing and crying into the phone and assuring him “You’ll be okay. And I’ll be here, waiting for you. So come home to me.”
and then his ‘real soon’ just breaks me, because he sees alaric and knows that even if klaus is not the one who turned mary porter, alaric will kill him. And he just wants to calm elena down and to not make her worry any more. Even if she just broke his heart again, he just cares about how she feels. He doesn’t say “i’m leaving because stefan and i made a deal.” he says he’s gonna be there with her real soon.
